Poliwhirl

0061Poliwhirl.png

(PAHL-ee-werl)

Tadpole Pokémon

Type: Water

Only their belly, where the swirl is visible, is smooth. The swirl (which is actually their internal organs) undulates slowly, and staring at it induces drowsiness, which some people use to put children to sleep. Though capable of moving on land, they prefer to stay in freshwater ponds and lakes, where they have fewer enemies. They may leave the water to capture Bug Pokémon prey, but will return to the safety of the water to consume them.

Their bodies are very light, and Hoppip are easily lifted off the ground by a gentle breeze. They can sense approaching winds, which they use to drift through the air. To avoid being blown away unintentionally, they will cluster and link leaves with other Hoppip or grip the ground firmly with their feet. The wind can carry them great distances, thus Hoppip can be found all over Johto–though Mt. Silver and the cliffs of the Indigo Plateau generally keep them separated from Kanto. They mostly enjoy temperate grasslands, fields, and occasionally urban environments.

Skiploom

0188Skiploom.png

(SKIHP-loom)

Dandelion Pokémon

Type: Grass-Flying

Average height: 0.6 m

Average weight: 0.2 kg

Skiploom will spread their petals to absorb as much sunlight as possible, and the bloom on their head opens and closes as the temperature fluctuates. The flower blooms when temperatures reach above 18˚C. They float in the air to get closer to the sun, but will close their flower and hide under shade when it rains. Skiploom mostly reside in temperate grasslands.

Jumpluff

0189Jumpluff.png

(JUHM-pluhf)

Dandelion Pokémon

Type: Grass-Flying

Average height: 0.8 m

Average weight: 0.3 kg

Jumpluff drift on seasonal winds and can use the spores produced by their cotton puffs to masterfully maneuver through the air, even in very strong winds. They will spread spores as they float around to create offspring. Inhaling these spores may cause coughs and itchiness. Jumpluff will descend if they encounter cold air currents. They are most commonly seen in the air above temperate grasslands. Their lives end when their cotton puffs cease producing spores.

Aipom

0190Aipom.png

(EHY-pahm)

Primate Pokémon

Type: Normal

Average height: 0.8 m

Average weight: 11.5 kg

Aipom use their powerful tails freely and cleverly for many purposes. They are strong enough to anchor Aipom to branches and suspend the rest of their body in the air, but also delicate enough to pick fruit and manipulate objects. They have been known to wrap their tails around tree branches as they sleep to avoid falling. This abundant use of their tails has made their arms less dexterous. Aipom live high in the treetops of tropical, temperate, and boreal forests, using their tails for balance as they swing from branch to branch.

Ambipom

0424Ambipom.png

(AM-bee-pahm)

Primate Pokémon

Type: Normal

Average height: 1.2 m

Average weight: 20.3 kg

Ambipom leap from tree to tree with incredible speed, using their tails for balance. They seldom use their normal arms, relying almost entirely on their tails instead. Ambipom work in large colonies in heavily wooded areas and make rings by linking tails with one another in friendship. They also show affection by using their tails to wrap and squeeze people. They live along with their young, Aipom, high in the trees of tropical, temperate, and boreal forests.

Sunkern

0191Sunkern.png

(SUHN-kern)

Sunflower Pokémon

Type: Grass

Average height: 0.3 m

Average weight: 1.8 kg

Conscious of their own weakness, Sunkern only feed on the dew from under the leaves of plants until they evolve, moving as little as possible to conserve nutrients stored in their bodies for evolution. If attacked by predators, Sunkern shake their leaves at the attacker. On a year following a cold summer, Sunkern populations explode. They can be found in temperate, grassy meadows.

Sunflora

0192Sunflora.png

(suhn-FLOAR-uh)

Sunflower Pokémon

Type: Grass

Average height: 0.8 m

Average weight: 8.5 kg

Their petals become more vivid as the weather warms. Sunflora convert solar energy into nutrition, thus they pursue sunlight and are almost always looking in the sun’s direction. During the day, Sunflora move around in a hectic manner, while at night, they come to a stop and close their petals. They are common in temperate grassy meadows.

Yanma

0193Yanma.png

(YAN-muh)

Dragonfly Pokémon

Type: Bug-Flying

Average length: 1.2 m

Average weight: 38 kg

Yanma are skilled fliers that can make sudden stops, turn in midair, and hover in place by flapping their wings at high speed. They can generate shock waves capable of breaking glass. Yanma are common in wooded and swampy areas, where they hunt for food, and are territorial, flitting around to guard their homes.

Yanmega

0469Yanmega.png

(yan-MAY-guh)

Dragonfly Pokémon

Type: Bug-Flying

Average length: 1.9 m

Average weight: 51.5 kg

By beating their wings, Yanmega can create shockwaves powerful enough to inflict critical injuries on the foe, and they are strong enough to carry humans on their backs. They use their powerful jaws to break apart prey, wasting no energy as they aim for the most vulnerable spots. Yanmega are highly violent and aggressive Pokémon, and their eyes possess a near 360˚ sight range, requiring proficient skill and bravery to tame them. Though rare, these highly dangerous Pokémon are found in wooded and swampy areas.

Wooper

0194Wooper.png

(WOO-per)

Salamander Pokémon

Type: Water-Ground

Average height: 0.4 m

Average weight: 8.5 kg

Wooper are timid, dull-witted Pokémon that tend to stay close to Quagsire, and are often oblivious to their surroundings. They live in cold water and, when sleeping, partially bury themselves in the mud at the bottom. Wooper will occasionally leave the water when the air cools in the evening to search for food along the shore. While walking on land, they coat their bodies in a slimy, toxic film that keeps their skin from dehydrating and insulates them against the cold. The film causes a shooting pain if touched barehanded.

Quagsire

0195Quagsire.png

(KWÆG-zahyer)

Salamander Pokémon

Type: Water-Ground

Average height: 1.4 m

Average weight: 75 kg

Quagsire are carefree and sluggish by nature, but tend to be protective toward Wooper. These unintelligent Pokémon often bump their heads inadvertently while swimming and appear not to care. They hunt for food by leaving their mouths wide open in water and waiting for unaware prey to blunder in. Because they seldom move, Quagsire do not get very hungry and can afford to wait. They live in clean bodies of freshwater as well as muddy swamps, and avoid sunlight in the day by submerging themselves in water.

Eevee

0133Eevee.png

(EE-vee)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Normal

Average height: 0.3 m

Average weight: 6.5 kg

Highly amicable, playful, and fond of people, Eevee are most commonly found living in towns and cities. They have an irregularly shaped genetic structure that is easily influenced by their environment, which allows them to adapt to a variety of habitats by evolving. Eevee has more potential evolutions than any other species, and their genes are believed to hold the key to understanding Pokémon evolution. Though rare, they are widely desired and loved as pets and companions.

Vaporeon

0134Vaporeon.png

(vay-POAR-ee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Water

Average height: 1 m

Average weight: 29 kg

Vaporeon can detect moisture with their fins, which vibrate when sensing incoming rain. Most are seen with Trainers, but in the wild they prefer to live in freshwater lakes and shores. Their cell composition’s similarity to water allows them to melt into the water and remain invisible while swimming, hiding from predators and ambushing prey.

Jolteon

0135Jolteon.png

(JOHL-tee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Electric

Average height: 0.8 m

Average weight: 24.5 kg

Jolteon create electricity using an organ in their lungs, which cause crackling noises as they exhale. They can also generate low-level electricity in their cells, which are amplified by the negative ions they gather and generate in their fur, allowing them to discharge electric bolts. Their prickly fur is made of electrically charged needles, which create a sparking noise as Jolteon move. They can launch their fur at enemies when agitated or startled, and the charge is powerful enough to remain on the shed fur for hours. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers, however their high-strung nature and tendency toward mood swings can make them difficult to train.

Flareon

0136Flareon.png

(FLEHR-ee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Fire

Average height: 0.9 m

Average weight: 25 kg

Their body temperature–which rises when excited–is caused by an internal flame sac. If a Flareon’s body gets too hot, they will fluff out the fur on their collar to cool down. Flareon store and heat inhaled air in their flame sac, then exhale it as fire, reaching temperatures of 1,700˚C. Their body temperature ranges between 700 and 800˚C, but can reach up to 900˚C. They are omnivores that like to roast berries or prey before consumption. Flareon have a curious personality, and are mostly found among the ownership of Trainers or living in populated areas.

Espeon

0196Espeon.png

(EHS-pee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Psychic

Average height: 0.9 m

Average weight: 26.5 kg

Their velvety fur is sensitive enough to sense miniscule shifts in the air, allowing them to predict the weather and their enemies’ thoughts and movements. By doing so, the tip of their tail quivers. The gem on their forehead glows when unleashing psychic energy and darkens when all of the energy has been exhausted. Espeon build up their psychic power by bathing in the sunlight. As such, they do not handle battles at night well. Espeon show extreme loyalty to any Trainer they consider worthy, even being said to have awakened their psychic powers from a desire to protect their Trainer. Some sources, however, theorize their powers were born from a need to keep themselves safe. Espeon are most commonly found in the ownership of Trainers or living in urban areas.

Umbreon

0197Umbreon.png

(UHM-bree-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Dark

Average height: 1 m

Average weight: 27 kg

Eevee evolve into Umbreon when exposed to ample amounts of moonlight, which alters their genetic structure. Their yellow rings glow when excited, such as in battle or when exposed to moonlight, which fills them with energy. Umbreon hunt at night, using well-developed eyes that can spot prey in pitch darkness. Their black fur helps them blend into the night while waiting for the right moment to pounce. When they do, the rings emit a dim, ominous glow as they lunge for the prey’s throat. When angered or agitated, Umbreon spray poisonous sweat secreted from their pores into the offender’s eyes to protect themselves. They are most common in urban areas or under the ownership of Trainers.

Leafeon

0470Leafeon.png

(LEEF-ee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Grass

Average height: 1 m

Average weight: 25.5 kg

Leafeon’s cellular structure is similar to plants, which allows them to perform photosynthesis and purify the air around them by sleeping under the sunlight. They get their energy this way instead of eating. Leafeon are pacifistic, quiet Pokémon, preferring not to fight, though they will sharpen their hard, leafy tail for the occasions they need to. The tail’s sharpness is said to exceed that of a master-crafted sword, being able to cut through trees with one hit. Leafeon aroma is similar to fresh grass in their youth. As they age, this fragrance bears more of a resemblance to fallen leaves. The aroma is favored as a popular ingredient in perfume. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers or in lush forests with clean rivers.

Glaceon

0471Glaceon.png

(GLAY-see-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Ice

Average height: 0.8 m

Average weight: 25.9 kg

By controlling their body temperature, Glaceon freeze the moisture in the air, producing ice crystals or diamond dust surrounding them. They are able to freeze their fur into sharp needle-like icicles, which they can fire at opponents or use as protection as they tackle their prey. Glaceon can quickly drop their body temperature below -60˚C. They are popular in ski resorts due to their ability to create powdery snow. However, some have become captivated by their beautiful snowfall and frozen without realizing it. Glaceon are most common among the ownership of Trainers or among icy caves and mountains.

Sylveon

0700Sylveon.png

(SIHL-vee-ahn)

Feline Pokémon

Type: Fairy

Average height: 1 m

Average weight: 23.5 kg

Their ribbon-like feelers emit a soothing aura that erases any sense of hostility, enabling them to stop fights instantly. When hunting, they swirl their feelers as a distraction while the aura weakens feelings of hostility in their prey. Then Sylveon pounce on their victim. They will also wrap their feelers around their Trainer’s arm as they walk together, which allows them to read their feelings. When a fight breaks out between Sylveon and Dragon-type Pokémon, Sylveon will bravely charge at them even if they are much larger. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers or brightly lit meadows.

Murkrow

0198Murkrow.png

(MER-kroh)

Corvus Pokémon

Type: Dark-Flying

Average height: 0.5 m

Average weight: 2.1 kg

Murkrow awaken at dusk and move during the night. They have a fondness for anything sparkly, and will fight other Pokémon to gain their stashes. However, they have been known to give shiny objects to humans they are fond of. When chased, they will lose the attacker by leading them down dark mountain trails. Murkrow may also do this as a mean-spirited prank, and interacting with these Pokémon in the wild is unadvised. Their thieving and nocturnal nature has made them representatives of misfortune. It was once believed saying “Workrum, Workrum–bad luck, don’t come,” would act as a protective incantation to drive away bad luck caused by seeing Murkrow. They usually live in flocks in forests or swamps, and may also act as servants to Honchkrow; with groups of over a hundred flying at Honchkrow’s call.

Honchkrow

0430Honchkrow.png

(HAHNCH-kroh)

Corvus Pokémon

Type: Dark-Flying

Average height: 0.9 m

Average weight: 27.3 kg

Honchkrow are ruthless Pokémon. With a single cry, they can summon and organize a murder of over a hundred Murkrow to fight on their behalf, letting them do most of the fighting before dealing the finishing blow. These flocks often plunge the sky into darkness, giving Honchkrow the moniker “Summoner of the Night.” They are unforgiving of failure or betrayal, and will hunt down and punish any Murkrow follower that does so. Honchkrow are active at night, and normally spend the days tending to their feathers in solitude. They are scavengers that live in swamps, forests, plains, and urban areas.

Slowpoke

0079Slowpoke.png

(SLOH-pohk)

Salamander Pokémon

Type: Water-Psychic

Average height: 1.2 m

Average weight: 36 kg

Their vacant eyes never appear to be focused. The tail drips a sweet, sappy substance that is attractive to many species of fish. Living along the water's edge of beaches and shores, they use their tail as a fishing lure. It often breaks off but will grow back. Slowpoke tails are considered a delicacy and commonly used as a cooking ingredient. In Galar, they are smoked and packaged as a curry ingredient. They are known to occasionally dive underwater to hunt as well, but are often caught themselves instead. With a notoriously dim intellect, they often forget what they are doing, and it takes them a long time to respond to external stimuli, taking up to five seconds to process pain or an entire day to realize their tail has been bitten. In some areas, it was historically believed their yawn caused rain, and they were worshiped in these cultures.

Slowbro

0080Slowbro.png

(SLOH-broh)

Salamander Pokémon

Type: Water-Psychic

Average height: 1.6 m

Average weight: 78.5 kg

Slowpoke evolve into Slowbro when a Shellder bites onto their tail. The Shellder develops a spiral form in an effort to suck more sweetness from Slowbro’s tail. If the tail or attached Shellder breaks off, Slowbro will revert to their unevolved form. Slowbro have lost the capacity to feel pain as a result of Shellder’s poison. While lazy and unintelligent, Slowbro become inspired when Shellder bite down on their tails. Though capable of powerful psychic attacks, they are rather peaceful and prefer not to fight. Because they can no longer fish using their tail, Slowbro swim to catch their prey and allow the Shellder to feed on the leftover scraps. They live near seashores.

Slowking

0199Slowking.png

(SLOH-king)

Salamander Pokémon

Type: Water-Psychic

Average height: 2 m

Average weight: 79.5 kg

Slowpoke evolve into a Slowking in the rare instance that a Shellder clamps onto their head. The Shellder’s bite releases venom into the Slowpoke’s brain, causing a chemical reaction that unlocks a superior intelligence and extraordinary power. More venom is injected every time Slowking yawns. The more venom one injects, the more intelligent Slowking becomes. One of the few Pokémon whose evolution can reverse, if the Shellder comes off their head, they will revert to a Slowpoke and lose all memory of what they have learned. Slowking are always trying to learn more and can stay calm in any situation and create plans with effective results. Their easygoing personality leaves them rarely stressed. They are commonly seen in research labs for their high intelligence, though wild ones are on rare occasion found living along seashores.

Misdreavus

0200Misdreavus.png

(mihs-DREE-vuhs)

Spirit Pokémon

Type: Ghost

Average height: 0.7 m

Average weight: 1 kg

Misdreavus feed on fear, absorbing it into the red gems around their necks. These terrifying Pokémon can see into the minds of others to determine what their greatest fears are. Misdreavus then produce vivid illusions of these fears, feeding off the emotional response they produce in the victim. Though the feeding process itself is harmless, Misdreavus have been known to cause intense trauma which can even lead to potential disorders such as PTSD. And Misdreavus tend to hide while they do this, so the victim may not realize what they see isn’t real. These effects are especially strong in the young, and some children who have encountered Misdreavus have suffered intense psychological damage. These nocturnal Pokémon live in caves but come out at night to feed. The intense illusions they create have made them near impossible to study in the wild. The only Trainers known to have captured one are Matsuba Matsukaze and Fantina Strassman. Recent expeditions into the Great Crater of Paldea claim to have spotted a Pokémon resembling a giant Misdreavus, though these rumors are unconfirmed.

Mismagius

0429Mismagius.png

(mihs-MÆG-ee-uhs)

Spirit Pokémon

Type: Ghost

Average height: 0.9 m

Average weight: 4.4 kg

Mismagius are capable of creating vivid hallucinations as well as putting people to sleep without their realizing and trapping them within hyper realistic dream worlds. These illusions and dreams have been known to be either horribly nightmarish or paradisal recreations of the victim’s greatest desires. Mismagius appear to do this to create feelings of intense misery or happiness, though when or why they choose one or the other remains unknown. Matsuba Matsukaze and Fantina Strassman are the only Trainers known to have raised a Mismagius, making knowledge of these rare Pokémon limited, as they are highly dangerous when encountered in the wild.

Unown

2018-05-23 22.18.51.png

(uhn-NOHN)

Unclassified species

Type: Psychic

Average height: 0.5 m

Average weight: ???

Unown live in a parallel world and can freely travel between it and ours. And contrary to Pokémon such as Dialga and Palkia, Unown have made periodic visits to our world, always traveling in large groups. However, they have only been reported to appear in the Ruins of Alph, Tanoby Chambers, and Solaceon Ruins. Highly elusive, no Unown has ever been captured, and their appearances in our world are rare, making them difficult to study. There are 26 known variant forms of Unown, which all resemble written letters. Certain modern written languages are believed to have been based on them.

Wynaut

0360Wynaut.png

(WAHY-naht)

Ribbon worm Pokémon

Type: Psychic

Average height: 0.6 m

Average weight: 14 kg

Wynaut create false bodies to act as protective doubles for their tails, which are the true bodies of Wynaut. Wynaut can control these personas to an impressive and highly convincing degree, making them walk, handle things with their arm-like ears, and even eat and speak. They tend to live in caves and travel in herds. They will test the endurance of their false bodies by squeezing up against other Wynaut at night, and in doing so, strengthen themselves and toughen their spirits, learning to deal with powerful counterattacks. When angered, Wynaut will slap their true bodies (the tails) against the ground. They love to eat sweet fruit and are drawn to fruit gardens.

Wobbuffet

0202Wobbuffet.png

(WAH-buh-feht)

Ribbon worm Pokémon

Type: Psychic

Average height: 1.3 m

Average weight: 28.5 kg

Wobbuffet create false bodies to act as protective doubles for their tails, which are the true bodies of Wobbuffet. Wobbuffet can control these personas to an impressive and highly convincing degree, making them walk, handle things with their arms, and even eat and speak. Wobbuffet are usually docile, but if their true body comes under threat, the persona will turn uncharacteristically aggressive to protect it. When attacked, Wobbuffet will inflate their persona and initiate a counterstrike. When two or more Wobbuffet meet, they will attempt to outlast each other in a battle of endurance. They dislike light and live in dark caves.

Girafarig

1920px-0203Girafarig.png

(jer-AF-uh-rihg)

Giraffe Pokémon

Type: Normal-Psychic

Average height: 1.5 m

Average weight: 41.5 kg

Their tails possess a head of their own. However, they are incapable of independent thinking and rely on outside stimuli such as smell to guide their actions. The tails will bite if they smell something alluring and can warn Girafarig of danger while the Pokémon sleeps. Girafarig live in savannas and grasslands, where they feed on plant life.

Farigiraf

1920px-0981Farigiraf.png

(fuh-RIH-guh-raf)

Giraffe Pokémon

Type: Normal-Psychic

Average height: 3.2 m

Average weight: 160 kg

Their two brains are connected through thick nerves, allowing Farigiraf to increase their psychic energy and unleash psychic waves through their antennae. A Farigiraf’s psychic powers are roughly ten times that of a Girafarig. Farigiraf are always observing their surroundings, and their brains can instantly detect danger. However, they often cannot react as quickly. The thick tail head serves as both offense and defense for the inner head. Farigiraf tend to live in savannas and open plains.

Pineco

0204Pineco.png

(PAHYN-koh)

Moth Pokémon

Type: Bug

Average height: 0.6 m

Average weight: 7.2 kg

Pineco make their shells thicker by gluing tree bark to their bodies. The glue is made of a fluid Pineco spit out, which hardens when exposed to air. Unbothered by the added weight of their shells, they hang patiently from tree branches in tropical and temperate forests, waiting to prey on flying insects.

Forretress

0205Forretress.png

(FOAR-eh-trehs)

Moth Pokémon

Type: Bug-Steel

Average height: 1.2 m

Average weight: 125.8 kg

Only their eyes are visible through their shells. Forretress can defend themselves by shooting out pieces of their outer shells, which is done mostly as a conditioned reflex rather than a conscious effort. Forretress live in tropical and temperate forests, attaching themselves to tree trunks.

Dunsparce

0206Dunsparce.png

(DUHN-spahrs)

Snake Pokémon

Type: Normal

Average length: 1.5 m

Average weight: 14 kg

Dunsparce can float slightly with their wings, which some scientists believe were used to fly during ancient times. They avoid detection and flee when spotted by burrowing into the ground with their tails. Dunsparce live immobile in caves and beneath the earth, where they create maze-like nests. They use the scent of dirt to navigate these tunnels without getting lost.

Dudunsparce

0982Dudunsparce.png

(duh-DUHN-spahrs)

Snake Pokémon

Type: Normal

Average length: 4.5 m

Average weight: 47.4 kg

According to various studies, the number of segments in a Dudunsparce’s body is determined by genetics. They are able to use their hard tails to bore holes into bedrock deep underground. Their nests can reach over ten kilometers long, and they drive out enemies by inhaling air into their long, narrow lungs then releasing an intense blast. However, Dudunsparce can be quite gentle, and have been known to carry lost Pokémon wandering into their nests on their backs to guide them outside.

Gligar

0207Gligar.png

(GLAHY-gahr)

Scorpion Pokémon

Type: Ground-Flying

Average height: 0.5 m

Average weight: 29.5 kg

Gligar emit sound waves to detect obstacles and fly around them. They glide smoothly and silently through the air to startle prey and attack by clamping onto the enemy’s face with their clawed hind legs and pincers, then jabbing with their poisonous stingers. Though Gligar make their nests along cliffsides in mountainous regions, they can survive in freezing environments.

Gliscor

0472Gliscor.png

(GLAHY-skoar)

Scorpion Pokémon

Type: Ground-Flying

Average height: 1.1 m

Average weight: 23.6 kg

These rare but dangerous nocturnal Pokémon feed on the blood of other creatures, and appear to take pride in fully draining the victim. Gliscor use echolocation to detect obstacles and fly around them. Their legs are not suitable for walking and they can only perform short hops along the ground. Gliscor hang upside down while sleeping. They ride winds and updrafts to glide in stealthy silence. However, their wings cannot flap effectively, so when there is no wind, they climb to the top of high structures and leap off to glide. They are mostly found in thick pine forests and swamps.

Shellder

0090Shellder.png

(SHEHL-der)

Bivalve Pokémon

Type: Water

Average height: 0.3 m

Average weight: 4 kg

They use their long tongues to burrow into the sand to sleep overnight and to lure and capture prey. The tongue protrudes even when the shell is closed, and tugging it will cause the shell to pop open. Shellder’s extremely durable shell protects their soft body, and the shells have historically been used to create shields. They have a strong appetite for Slowpoke tails and can develop a symbiotic relationship with them. Clamping onto an enemy, however, reveals their vulnerable parts, and they will only do so as a last resort. Shellder swim through the ocean by rapidly opening and closing their shell while facing backwards, which they do at surprisingly fast speeds. They were prehistorically preyed upon by Omastar, whose powerful bite could break their shell.

Cloyster

0091Cloyster.png

(KLOYS-ter)

Bivalve Pokémon

Type: Water-Ice

Average height: 1.5 m

Average weight: 132.5 kg

Their impressive shell strength can withstand bomb blasts and even missile strikes. Cloyster typically only open their shells to attack an opponent. However, they can retaliate even when their shell is closed. With rapid succession, they launch their spikes at the foe, keeping them repelled. This same projectile system is also used for swimming. Cloyster swallow seawater then eject it toward the rear, pushing them forward.

Onix

0095Onix.png

(AH-nihks)

Mineral Pokémon

Type: Rock-Ground

Average length: 14.8 m

Average weight: 357 kg

Their horns contain a magnet that serves as an internal compass to guide them and prevent them from getting lost while digging underground at speeds of over 80 kph. Any hard objects they encounter while tunneling are absorbed into their bodies. Onix have been observed feeding on boulders for food. They are found in mountains and caves and can live to 100 years. The tunnels they dig are often used as homes by Diglett. Onix and their evolved form, Steelix are two of several primarily referred to representatives of Pokémon's seemingly impossible size and weight correlations that have baffled scientists for centuries. Despite repeated failures to turn up answers, scientists continue to persist that there must be an explanation for this phenomenon.

Steelix

0208Steelix.png

(STEEL-ihks)

Mineral Pokémon

Type: Steel-Ground

Average length: 17.7 m

Average weight: 760 kg

Though slow, their bodies (strengthened by an iron-rich diet) are impervious to most damage. Steelix can burrow to incredible depths of the planet’s crust and easily chew through boulders with their powerful jaws. Their eyes are capable of seeing in the dark. Steelix and their pre-evolved form, Onix are two of several primarily referred to representatives of Pokémon's seemingly impossible size and weight correlations that have baffled scientists for centuries. Despite repeated failures to turn up answers, scientists continue to persist that there must be an explanation for this phenomenon.

Snubbull

0209Snubbull.png

(SNUH-bul)

Canine Pokémon

Type: Fairy

Average height: 0.6 m

Average weight: 7.8 kg

Snubbull use their keen sense of smell to track things down. Despite their fierce-looking face, Snubbull are quite playful and affectionate. They are also highly loyal and devoted and quite popular among young middle-aged women. Snubbull prefer to scare away opponents rather than fight, however, they are saddened when others run from their mean appearance. They reside mostly in urban areas.

Granbull

0210Granbull.png

(GRAN-bul)

Canine Pokémon

Type: Fairy

Average height: 1.4 m

Average weight: 48.7 kg

Granbull are timid Pokémon, despite their fierce appearance. Unless startled, they will not bite indiscriminately, and prefer to avoid disputes. When attacked, however, they will flail about to fend off the assailant. Their bite is powerful, but due to the heavy weight of their jaws, they keep their heads tilted down for balance. Granbull are most commonly found wandering urban areas.

Qwilfish

0211Qwilfish.png

(KWIHL-fihsh)

Pufferfish Pokémon

Type: Water-Poison

Average height: 0.5 m

Average weight: 3.9 kg

To attack, Qwilfish drink over ten liters of water to inflate their bodies, then use the water pressure to shoot poisonous quills at their foes, which cause fainting. However, they are briefly left defenseless after firing. Their round bodies make Qwilfish poor swimmers, and filling themselves with water makes swimming even more difficult. When facing a larger opponent, they will inflate to match the foe’s size as much as possible. If startled while inflated, they will spit out their water to propel themselves away.

Scyther

0123Scyther.png

(SAHY-ther)

Mantis Pokémon

Type: Bug-Flying

Average height: 1.5 m

Average weight: 56 kg

Scyther are natural born hunters that move at blinding speeds and tear into prey with their scythes. They camouflage well in forests and grasslands and maintain the sharpness of their blades through battle with other Scyther as well as cutting through hard objects. They can cut through full grown trees in a single swipe. Scyther often form swarms under a single leader. If a challenger defeats a swarm leader and takes its place, the leader is exiled from the swarm.

Scizor

0212Scizor.png

(SIH-zoar)

Mantis Pokémon

Type: Bug-Steel

Because of this, Remoraid are often referred to as the “snipers of the sea.” When threatened, they can also shoot water to propel themselves backward. They tend to travel in large groups, or, in Johto, by attaching to the fins of Mantine with their dorsal fins, which act like suction pads. When attached to Mantine, they feed on whatever it leaves behind and commonly fight alongside it as well. Schools of Remoraid have been observed traveling with Mantyke to help them achieve evolution. These sea-dwelling Pokémon travel downstream from rivers when evolution draws near.

Artist's rendition

It is unknown how Kleavor became extinct. However, copious evidence of their existence seems to support the theory that all Pokémon once possessed multiple evolutions but are gradually losing their abilities. Ancient Hisuian writings claim these Pokémon to have been quite hostile. However, the stones adorning Kleavor’s bodies would often chip off during fierce fights, and settlers of ancient Hisui would collect these to craft tools. One Kleavor in particular was evidently worshiped by the Hisuian people as one of the ten ancient Pokémon blessed by Arceus.

Records claim Ursaring could once evolve into Ursaluna via exposure to the full moon's light in swampy terrain. They could travel through swamps with ease and manipulate peat to their advantage. They used their sense of smell to search out items and even lost people. A select few Ursaluna have been revived by modern technology, however, Ursaring’s ability to evolve remains long lost. Though classified as extinct, rumors claim a unique variant to have been spotted in the Timeless Woods of Kitakami, though they remain unconfirmed.

Sneasler

(SNEEZ-ler)

Weasel Pokémon

Type: Poison-Fighting

Height: 1.3 m

Weight: 43 kg

These extinct Pokémon were an alternate evolution of Sneasel adapted to harsh frozen environments. Fossils of this Pokémon are rare, and only one complete fossil has ever been discovered with the necessary preserved DNA to allow for restoration. This single specimen revealed much about the Pokémon, most surprising being that it is neither Ice nor Dark-Type as previously assumed, and that it shows solitudinarian behavior as opposed to the modern Sneasel and Weavile who prefer to live in packs. Following a series of biological testing and research, the Sneasler was entrusted to Fighting expert, Bruno Morikawa to observe and study its battle capabilities. Sneasler has shown to possess great strength, severe poison, and unmatched climbing and combat abilities

Following the war’s end, Lugia has continued to watch over Johto, protecting the nation’s culture and independence and has become a heroic icon of the country. In doing so, it also killed the three Legendary cats, which Ho-Oh revived as the Legendary beasts through a process that corrupted them and turned them violent against Lugia. Shortly after, the Legendary birds turned against Lugia as well, though it is unconfirmed if they were similarly corrupted. Despite the overwhelming odds, Lugia ultimately defeated Ho-Oh, forcing the Pokémon to flee Johto along with the Legendary beasts, neither of which have been seen since.
