Platypus Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 0.8 m
Average weight: 19.6 kg
Psyduck constantly suffer an eternal headache and are unable to think clearly. When the pain elevates to migraine levels, they release the tension in the form of strong psychic energy. The use of these powers produces brain waves identical to those seen in sleepers, and Psyduck are unable to recall these episodes. They live in freshwater lakes and small ponds.
Golduck

(GOHL-duhk)
Platypus Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 1.7 m
Average weight: 76.6 kg
Their body has adapted to have a hydrodynamic shape, and they use their tail as a rudder to steer. They are the fastest swimmers among all Pokémon, and even rough seas do not hamper their swimming abilities. They have been known to occasionally rescue people from shipwrecks. The gem in their forehead glows when using psychic powers or swimming at top speeds. In the past, people over-hunted Golduck, believing their gem granted supernatural powers. Old tales claim Golduck punished river polluters by dragging them into the water and taking them away.
Mankey

(MANG-kee)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Average height: 0.5 m
Average weight: 28 kg

Some researchers believe their anger carries over into their dreams, as they often wake up angry all over again. However, this constant release of stress grants them long lives. They live in treetop colonies in the mountains. If one becomes enraged, the whole colony rampages. If one loses sight of the colony or is left alone, they become infuriated. Their preferred food is chestnuts, but they lack the dexterity to peel them and become agitated attempting to peel the spiky shell.
Primeape

(PRAHYM-ayp)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 32 kg
The slightest glance of eye contact will make this Pokémon furious. When enraged, their blood circulation is boosted and their muscles strengthened, but at the cost of some intelligence. They are able to convert their anger into energy, which they attack opponents with. Sturdy brain vessels keep them healthy despite constant anger. They live on mountains and will chase anyone who upsets them and not stop until they have caught their target. If woken from sleep, they will chase whoever woke them. In rare cases, they have been observed to become so angry, they die. However, they are said to look peaceful in death, possibly because their rage has evolved beyond the physical limits of their body.
Annihilape

(uh-NAHY-ih-layp)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Fighting-Ghost
Average height: 1.2 m
Average weight: 56 kg
This Pokémon evolved from Primeape when the rage in its soul became too much for its physical form to contain. It gained an increased power as a result of its spirit no longer being limited by flesh. Annihilape’s inner boiling rage fuels its punches with a force that frightens its target to the core. This incredibly rare and powerful Pokémon had begun to fade into myth until its existence was recently confirmed in Kanto. This confirmatory Annihilape continues to be the only known one in Kanto, though a few have since cropped up in Paldea as well.
Growlithe

(GROW-lihth)

Arcanine are some of the rarest Pokémon in the wild, but have been seen running across prairies, mountains, and active volcanoes.
Poliwag

(PAHL-ee-wæg)
Tadpole Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 0.6 m
Average weight: 12.4 kg
Though thin, their flexible skin is difficult to puncture, and their lips can act as suction cups for rocks. The swirl on their bodies is actually their internal organs visible through their semitransparent skin. The swirl’s direction differs by area, and it is theorized the equator has an effect on it. Though their tail makes them a powerful swimmer, they like to waddle on land, but will quickly return to their small freshwater ponds and lakes if they sense danger.
Poliwhirl

(PAHL-ee-werl)
Tadpole Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 20 kg
When out of water, Poliwhirl sweat to keep their body moist and healthy. This covers them in an oily fluid that allows them to slip free of enemies. Only their belly, where the swirl is visible, is smooth. The swirl (which is actually their internal organs) undulates slowly, and staring at it induces drowsiness, which some people use to put children to sleep. Though capable of moving on land, they prefer to stay in freshwater ponds and lakes, where they have fewer enemies. They may leave the water to capture Bug Pokémon prey, but will return to the safety of the water to consume them.
Poliwrath

(PAHL-ee-rath)
Tadpole Pokémon
Type: Water-Fighting
Average height: 1.3 m
Average weight: 54 kg
Their bodies are made almost entirely out of muscle, which appears to never tire. Poliwrath use their muscles to swim vast distances across the ocean with minimal breathing. Average weight: 33.9 kg
They act as leader to Poliwag and Poliwhirl, which gather from afar upon hearing Politoed’s cry. They enjoy expanding their throat and singing. The curled hair on their head is considered proof of their status as king, and the longer and curlier it is, the more Poliwag and Poliwhirl will obey them, and the more they are respected by other Politoed. At nightfall, they appear near lakes to make territorial claims that sound like shouting. A male Politoed with a deep, menacing voice is more popular among females.
Abra

(AB-ruh)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Average height: 0.9 m
Average weight: 19.5 kg
Found just about anywhere, Abra can sense danger through a telepathic radar and will teleport away to safety. However, they may become panicked if they awake in an unknown location. By hypnotizing themselves, Abra can teleport even while asleep. They can even use extrasensory abilities and teleport to trees to pick and eat berries while asleep. Due to the strain of their telepathic powers, Abra sleep for 18 hours a day. If they fail to sleep long enough, they will be unable to use their powers. The contents of an Abra’s dream are said to affect their powers.
Kadabra

(kuh-DA-bruh)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Average height: 1.3 m
Average weight: 56.5 kg
They are always seen carrying a silver spoon, which amplifies their telekinetic powers. A gold spoon does not work, and a Kadabra is only half as strong without a spoon. They emit alpha waves strong enough to induce headaches, can cause clocks to run backwards, machines to malfunction, and delicate devices to cease functioning. The waves increase in strength the greater the danger a Kadabra faces. By closing their eyes, they can double the amount of alpha waves they emit. The waves become unusual when Kadabra have a headache. All of their brain cells work in unison when Kadabra use their powers. They sleep while levitating, using their tail as a pillow. They store psychic energy inside the star on their forehead in preparation for evolution. According to legend, Kadabra was born from a transformed human child who could not control their telekinetic powers. Kadabra are quite rare, but occasionally spotted living on the outskirts of urban areas.
Alakazam

(AL-uh-kuh-zam)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Average height: 1.5 m
Average weight: 48 kg
Their two spoons are created using psychic power and amplify their abilities. An Alakazam may give one to someone they trust. Alakazam can use all kinds of psychic abilities, and the overflow of their power can cause headaches to those nearby. They use this power to move their body rather than their weak muscles. They also use psychic powers to hold up their head, which is too heavy for their thin neck. They have a superb memory and are said to remember everything since they hatched as an Abra to the time of death. Their brains are continuously growing, and their IQ surpasses that of most humans. They are often employed by professional scientists of various fields and have led to numerous breakthroughs and discoveries. Wild Alakazam are nearly unheard of, though occasional reports claim to have seen them living on the outskirts of urban areas, down dark alleys, or in sewers and other underground passages.

The belt they wear regulates their strength, but Machoke remove it when facing a truly powerful opponent. They reside in the mountains where they train daily. Machoke are a male only species, with no females having ever been documented.
Machamp

(muh-CHAMP)
Primate Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Average height: 1.6 m
Average weight: 130 kg
Machamp are said to know every martial art style in the world. They punch extremely quickly, throwing dozens of punches per second. Due to their four arms, they can hit from a multitude of angles and pin all of their foe’s limbs down at once. Their arms also allow them to attack and defend simultaneously. However, they have poor dexterity and cannot handle delicate work. The belt they wear restricts muscle activity and can cause consequences if removed. Despite Machamp and their previous evolutions bearing the strongest resemblance to humans, they show now apparent common ancestor with them. These rare Pokémon have been seen living in mountainous areas. Machamp are a male only species, with no females having ever been documented.
Bellsprout

(BEHL-sprowt)
Sundew Pokémon

Weepinbell

(WEE-pihn-behl)
Sundew Pokémon
Type: Grass-Poison
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 6.4 kg
They camouflage themselves as a plant in temperate forests and jungles, hanging from tree branches as they await unwary victims. When prey draws near, they spray poisonous powder to immobilize the target before melting it with their internal acids. Weepinbell ooze a neutralizing fluid that prevents these internal acids from melting their own body. They will use their sharp leaves to slice up larger prey.
Victreebel

(VIHK-tree-behl)
Sundew Pokémon
Type: Grass-Poison
Average height: 1.7 m
Average weight: 15.5 kg
They flick the long vine growing from their head in a way to mimic animal movement in order to attract prey. Victreebel also produce a sweet scent to further aid in luring victims. The more prey their acid has dissolved, the sweeter its aroma becomes. These uncommon Pokémon form small groups in thick temperate forests and deep jungles and are territorial.
Tentacool

(TEHN-tuh-kool)
Jellyfish Pokémon
Type: Water-Poison
Average height: 0.9 m
Average weight: 45.5 kg
Found all around the oceans of Kanto, their bodies are made up of 99% water, and the remaining 1% contains their organs. They absorb sunlight and refract it using the water of their body to convert it into beam energy. Their tentacles are laced with stinging cells. The tentacles break off occasionally, but regenerate. The poison in their tentacles is so potent, a human stung by one would need immediate transportation to a hospital. Tentacool are weak swimmers, traveling Kanto's oceans mostly by riding currents. They camouflage by blending with the water. Tentacool will shrivel up if washed ashore, due to dehydration, but can be revived if thrown back in. They were once believed to be related to the Paldean Toedscool, but were discovered to be separate species.
Tentacruel

(TEHN-tuh-krool)
Jellyfish Pokémon
Type: Water-Poison
Average height: 1.6 m
Average weight: 55 kg
The red orbs glow when Tentacruel are excited or agitated. They use them to communicate with their own kind and may alert others to danger by flashing them. The orbs can also refract sunlight, storing energy and firing ultrasonic waves. Their light blue body helps them camouflage in the water, and their tentacles can grow or shrink with ease to ensnare prey before immobilizing it with poison. Tentacruel have eighty tentacles, however most of them are kept short or retracted, and only around fourteen are exposed at a time. They tend to lose tentacles as they age. They live in underwater rock formations around Kanto's oceans and form large groups to scare away nearby fish Pokémon. They were once believed to be related to the Paldean Toedscruel, but were discovered to be separate species.
Geodude

(JEE-oh-dood)
Mineral Pokémon
Type: Rock-Ground
Average height: 0.4 m
Average weight: 20 kg
Geodude are proud of their sturdy bodies and will bash against others in a contest to prove whose body is harder. The longer they live, the more chipped and worn their bodies become. They are described as having rugged and tough hearts no matter the situation. Geodude are commonly found on mountain trails and like to remain still, which leads to them often being mistaken as ordinary rocks. One should watch their step in such areas, as they are known to punch at those who step on them.
Graveler

(GRA-veh-ler)
Mineral Pokémon
Type: Rock-Ground
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 105 kg
Their favorite method of locomotion is rolling, especially since they are slow walkers. They often roll down mountain paths at over 100 kilometers per hour, stopping themselves by crashing into large boulders. One should exercise extreme caution hiking mountains where Graveler are known to live. Graveler appear to enjoy this, as they often will climb up mountains base to summit only to roll down again. They are generally free and uncaring, not minding if pieces of themselves break off, as they have to ability to restore them over time. Graveler create homes for themselves by carving out holes in cliff faces.
Golem

(GOHL-ehm)
Mineral Pokémon
Type: Rock-Ground
Average height: 1.4 m
Average weight: 300 kg
The rocks that comprise this Pokémon’s shell are durable enough to withstand a blast of dynamite. They grow bigger by shedding their skin once a year. The discarded shell hardens when exposed to air, crumbling and returning to the soil. They stop shedding with age, and moss grows over their shell. Golem can withdraw their heads and limbs into their shell and roll at high speeds. However, they are unable to see and may run over anything in their path. It is commonly found in mountainous regions.
Ponyta

(POH-nee-tah)
Horse Pokémon
Type: Fire
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 30 kg
Their flames appear about an hour after hatching. They are weak at birth and become stronger by stumbling and falling to keep up with their parent. Relatively light for their size, Ponyta have high running speeds and impressive jumping abilities. Ponyta is well known for the classic children’s fairytale, Diamondhooves: the Ponyta who Leapt Over Prism Tower. A Ponyta’s flames will not burn anyone they trust. However, their trust is difficult to gain. They live in fields, grasslands, mountains, and anywhere they can run freely.
Rapidash

(RA-pih-dash)
Horse Pokémon
Type: Fire
Average height: 1.7 m
Average weight: 95 kg
Though commonly seen casually cantering in open plains, Rapidash are incredibly agile and can run up to 250 kilometers per hour. Highly competitive, and with a love for running, they often chase after other creatures in hopes of racing them. With incredible acceleration, they can reach their top speed in seconds. At full gallop, their hooves barely touch the ground, and their mane sparkles. The faster Rapidash move, the longer the flames of their mane become.
Slowpoke

(SLOH-pohk)
Salamander Pokémon
Type: Water-Psychic
Average height: 1.2 m
Average weight: 36 kg
Their vacant eyes never appear to be focused. The tail drips a sweet, sappy substance that is attractive to many species of fish. Living along the water's edge of beaches and shores, they use their tail as a fishing lure. It often breaks off but will grow back. Slowpoke tails are considered a delicacy and commonly used as a cooking ingredient. In Galar, they are smoked and packaged as a curry ingredient. They are known to occasionally dive underwater to hunt as well, but are often caught themselves instead. With a notoriously dim intellect, they often forget what they are doing, and it takes them a long time to respond to external stimuli, taking up to five seconds to process pain or an entire day to realize their tail has been bitten. In some areas, it was historically believed their yawn caused rain, and they were worshiped in these cultures.
Slowbro

(SLOH-broh)
Salamander Pokémon
Type: Water-Psychic
Average height: 1.6 m
Average weight: 78.5 kg
Slowpoke evolve into Slowbro when a Shellder bites onto their tail. The Shellder develops a spiral form in an effort to suck more sweetness from Slowbro’s tail. If the tail or attached Shellder breaks off, Slowbro will revert to their unevolved form. Slowbro have lost the capacity to feel pain as a result of Shellder’s poison. While lazy and unintelligent, Slowbro become inspired when Shellder bite down on their tails. Though capable of powerful psychic attacks, they are rather peaceful and prefer not to fight. Because they can no longer fish using their tail, Slowbro swim to catch their prey and allow the Shellder to feed on the leftover scraps. They live near seashores.
Slowking

(SLOH-king)
Salamander Pokémon
Type: Water-Psychic
Average height: 2 m
Average weight: 79.5 kg
Slowpoke evolve into a Slowking in the rare instance that a Shellder clamps onto their head. The Shellder’s bite releases venom into the Slowpoke’s brain, causing a chemical reaction that unlocks a superior intelligence and extraordinary power. More venom is injected every time Slowking yawns. The more venom one injects, the more intelligent Slowking becomes. One of the few Pokémon whose evolution can reverse, if the Shellder comes off their head, they will revert to a Slowpoke and lose all memory of what they have learned. Slowking are always trying to learn more and can stay calm in any situation and create plans with effective results. Their easygoing personality leaves them rarely stressed. They are commonly seen in research labs for their high intelligence, though wild ones are on rare occasion found living along seashores.
Magnemite

(MÆG-neh-mahyt)
Magnet Pokémon
Type: Electric-Steel
Average height: 0.3 m
Average weight: 6 kg
Despite being mechanical creatures with no determinate gender or sex, Magnemite have demonstrated emotions and seem to be able to reproduce. They even exhibit the need to eat, though their main form of nutrients is electrical currents. The magnetic units on their bodies generate an electromagnetic field that allows them to float and potentially disrupt electrical equipment. The units generate stronger magnetic fields the faster they rotate. Should they run out of electricity, Magnemite will fall to the ground. Common batteries can help Magnemite to start moving again. They are commonly found in power plants and locations with strong magnetic fields. To prevent power outages, these plants deliberately send out signals Magnemite can't stand in order to ward them off.
Magneton

(MÆG-neh-tahn)
Magnet Pokémon
Type: Electric-Steel
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 60 kg
Magneton form only when three Magnemite link themselves together through a powerful magnetic force. They can often be disruptive to electronic devices and induce earaches. They use powerful radio waves to study the surrounding area. When sunspots flare up, Magneton tend to appear more often, presumably due to the changes in the sun’s magnetic field. When rain clouds form, they gather in areas prone to lightning strikes. Despite their modern appearance, recent claimed sightings in Paldea of a similar Pokémon suggests they have ancestors dating back thousands of years.
Magnezone

(MÆG-neh-zohn)
Magnet Pokémon
Type: Electric-Steel
Average height: 1.2 m
Average weight: 180 kg
Their magnets allow them to control anti-gravity and float through the air. Their anti-gravity is strong enough to even carry humans. Magnezone are very rare in the wild, but have been spotted flying through the skies, mistaken for UFO sightings. However, they seem to be receiving and sending signals from an unknown source and an unknown purpose, which leads some people to believe they came from outer space and are being controlled by unknown beings.
Farfetch'd

(FAHR-fehchd)
Duck Pokémon
Type: Normal-Flying
Average height: 0.8 m
Average weight: 15 kg
Their wings appear prehensile enough to substitute for hands. They are always seen carrying a leek stalk or spring onion, which they are highly protective of. Losing the stalk can leave Farfetch’d defenseless, and they will seek out a new one to replace it immediately. They live in temperate grasslands, where leeks grow. However, they are selective about the leeks they use and have been known to fight over good ones. Known uses for the stalk include using it as nesting material, emergency food source, and wielding it like a sword as their weapon. Several fighting styles have been observed involving Farfetch’d’s leek. Their numbers have decreased in recent years due to over-hunting, and breeding attempts are being made to increase the Farfetch’d population.
Doduo

(doh-DOO-oh)
Ostrich Pokémon
Type: Normal-Flying
Average height: 1.4 m
Average weight: 39.2 kg
Both heads have identical brains. However, it is believed that on occasion, they may possess different brains. It is also theorized that the two heads communicate with some form of telepathy for coordination. Even when sleeping or eating, one head is always awake and alert, keeping a keen eye out for enemies. They do not fly well, but have developed legs that make them powerful runners, reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour as they sprint across wide open plains, grasslands, or savannas.
Dodrio

(doh-DREE-oh)
Ostrich Pokémon
Type: Normal-Flying
Average height: 1.8 m
Average weight: 85.2 kg
Each head has its own brain and personality, representing anger, joy, and sorrow. Despite being separate, Dodrio have the innate ability to use all three brains to collect data, formulate, and execute complex plans and strategies. However, on occasion, they may overthink and become immobilized and unable to carry out any action. The three heads will often bicker over which gets to eat first. At least one head is alert at all times. Extreme caution is advised when all three heads are facing separate directions, for Dodrio are most dangerous in this state. In addition to three heads, they have three sets of hearts and lungs as well. This allows them to efficiently oxygenate and pump blood throughout their body, giving them increased endurance to run vast distances without rest. They are prone to race vigorously across open plains.
Seel

(SEEL)
Pinniped Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 1.1 m
Average weight: 90 kg
They use their horns in combination with their tusks to bore through ice floes. Their warm fur and thick hide allow them to swim in waters as cold as -40˚C. They thrive in these cold environments, becoming more active as temperatures drop and tiring easily in warmer waters. Seel prefer to sleep during the day and hunt for prey under sheets of ice in the evening hours. They are graceful swimmers but struggle to move on dry land.
Dewgong

(DOO-gahng)
Pinniped Pokémon
Type: Water-Ice
Average height: 1.7 m
Average weight: 120 kg
Their fur renders them near invisible in snowy conditions. Even in extremely cold and ice-packed waters, their tails allow them to be swift and agile swimmers, reaching up to speeds of 8 knots. Their horns allow them to cut through the thickest ice floes. They live on icebergs around the Seafoam Islands and thrive in lower temperatures, becoming increasingly active the colder the weather. By storing thermal energy within their bodies, they are unharmed by even the most intense freezing weather. In daylight hours, they sleep on ice or under shallow water. At night, when the temperature drops, they become hunters and search for prey. Following a meal, they sunbathe on the beach, which raises their body temperature and aids in digestion.
Grimer

(GRAHY-mer)
Pollution Pokémon
Type: Poison
Average height: 0.9 m
Average weight: 30 kg
This Pokémon’s oozing body contains a variety of pungent bacteria potent enough to render soil barren and incapable of supporting plant life. Their lack of a solid form allows them to squeeze into any space, penetrating sewage pipes to feed off the wastewater. Pieces of them often break off and go on to become new Grimer, making them one of the few Pokémon whose reproductive method is factually known and observed. They thrive primarily in the sewers of Saffron City. With no known predators, they are despised by the majority of society as an environmental hazard whose existence offers little to no benefit to life other than their own. Due to being born from pollution and the sludge of dirty streams and seabeds–as well as their population being dependent on the availability of waste and pollution–many view them as the manifestation of humanity’s exploitive greed against nature. Some Pokémon Trainers have found use for them, though these Trainers are commonly scorned. A large percentage of Kantonians strongly believe their extinction would overwhelmingly benefit the environment. However, increasing efforts to eliminate Grimer and Muk have stirred controversy as some people see them as living creatures that should be protected. There has been recent discussion of creating controlled polluted areas for Grimer and Muk.
Muk

(MUHK)
Pollution Pokémon
Type: Poison
Average height: 1.2 m
Average weight: 30 kg
These living biohazards leak toxins that instantly kill all plant life they touch. Even being in close proximity to plants will cause them to wilt and die. Extreme caution is advised in avoiding any contact with this Pokémon, as an accidental brush up can lead to severe sickness. The effects of these Pokémon can leave the landscape barren for three years. Attempts to return greenery to Saffron City have been rendered near impossible due to this Pokémon’s presence. However, Saffron’s high pollution levels have mostly kept the Muk and Grimer population happily contained, and some fear that cleaning the city would lead to Muk and Grimer spreading out to infest other areas across Kanto. Celadon in particular has spent millions of dollars into ensuring not a single Grimer or Muk enters their city limits. Muk will consume nearly any waste or refuse generated by people and Pokémon alike, and their body produces a powerful odor that can cause fainting.
Shellder

(SHEHL-der)
Bivalve Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 0.3 m
Average weight: 4 kg
They use their long tongues to burrow into the sand to sleep overnight and to lure and capture prey. The tongue protrudes even when the shell is closed, and tugging it will cause the shell to pop open. Shellder’s extremely durable shell protects their soft body, and the shells have historically been used to create shields. They have a strong appetite for Slowpoke tails and can develop a symbiotic relationship with them. Clamping onto an enemy, however, reveals their vulnerable parts, and they will only do so as a last resort. Shellder swim through the ocean by rapidly opening and closing their shell while facing backwards, which they do at surprisingly fast speeds. They were prehistorically preyed upon by Omastar, whose powerful bite could break their shell.
Cloyster

(KLOYS-ter)
Bivalve Pokémon
Type: Water-Ice
Average height: 1.5 m
Average weight: 132.5 kg
Their impressive shell strength can withstand bomb blasts and even missile strikes. Cloyster typically only open their shells to attack an opponent. However, they can retaliate even when their shell is closed. With rapid succession, they launch their spikes at the foe, keeping them repelled. This same projectile system is also used for swimming. Cloyster swallow seawater then eject it toward the rear, pushing them forward.
Gastly

(GAST-lee)
Spirit Pokémon
Type: Ghost-Poison
(assumtion based on Kikuko's Gengar)
Average height: ≈ 0.3 m
(approximation based on limited encounters)
Average weight: ???
This Pokémon was discovered only a few hundred years ago, following the disappearance of a young child in Lavender Town. Wild Gastly have never been seen outside of Lavender Town, whose seclusion and animosity toward outsiders has made it near impossible to study these mysterious creatures. Few who enter the town with intentions of studying this Pokémon have returned. Gastly appear to be made of gas and able to pass through solid objects.
Haunter

(HAHN-ter)
Spirit Pokémon
Type: Ghost-Poison
(assumption based on Kikuko's Gengar)
Average height: ≈ 1 m
(approximation based on limited sightings)
Average weight: ???
Few have met this Pokémon that lived to speak of it. Their tongue reportedly inflicts convulsions on the victim.
Gengar

(GEHN-gahr)
Spirit Pokémon
Type: Ghost-Poison
Height: 1.5 m
Weight: 0.1 kg
Unconfirmed rumors speak of a small handful of Trainers from Lavender Town having trained one in the past. However, most qualified experts express strong skepticism regarding these legends. No wild Gengar has ever been reportedly seen, and it is unknown how dangerous one might be. The only known Gengar currently in existence belongs to Kikuko Sugiyama of the Kantonian Elite Four, who has refused all questions and interview requests regarding the Ghost Pokémon. Observations of Kikuko’s televised battles have revealed Gengar can hide within the shadows of any object and extend its tongue to great lengths. Trainers who faced it have commonly reported a decrease in the air temperature upon Gengar’s release.
Onix

(AH-nihks)
Mineral Pokémon
Type: Rock-Ground
Average length: 14.8 m
Average weight: 357 kg
Their horns contain a magnet that serves as an internal compass to guide them and prevent them from getting lost while digging underground at speeds of over 80 kph. Any hard objects they encounter while tunneling are absorbed into their bodies. Onix have been observed feeding on boulders for food. They are found in mountains and caves and can live to 100 years. The tunnels they dig are often used as homes by Diglett. Onix and their evolved form, Steelix are two of several primarily referred to representatives of Pokémon's seemingly impossible size and weight correlations that have baffled scientists for centuries. Despite repeated failures to turn up answers, scientists continue to persist that there must be an explanation for this phenomenon.
Steelix

(STEEL-ihks)
Mineral Pokémon
Type: Steel-Ground
Average length: 17.7 m
Average weight: 760 kg
Though slow, their bodies (strengthened by an iron-rich diet) are impervious to most damage. Steelix can burrow to incredible depths of the planet’s crust and easily chew through boulders with their powerful jaws. Their eyes are capable of seeing in the dark. Steelix and their pre-evolved form, Onix are two of several primarily referred to representatives of Pokémon's seemingly impossible size and weight correlations that have baffled scientists for centuries. Despite repeated failures to turn up answers, scientists continue to persist that there must be an explanation for this phenomenon.
Drowzee

(DROW-zee)

Unclassified species
Type: Electric
Average height: 0.5 m
Average weight: 10.4 kg
Much of Voltorb’s biology seems to imply they are the result of a Poké Ball being exposed to a unique energy pulse. However, distant ancestors of this Pokémon in Sinnoh suggest they have existed long before the invention of the Poké Ball. In addition, no scientist has ever been able to forcibly create a Voltorb from a Poké Ball. And despite possessing no determinate gender or sex, Voltorb appear able to reproduce and have been observed to hatch from eggs. The modern consensus among biologists is that their resemblance to Poké Balls is coincidental. They have a volatile temperament and are capable of creating their own arc flash if agitated or bumped. However, Voltorb appear to recover quickly from their own blast. They are commonly found in power plants, where they feed off electricity.

However, it is believed crying makes them stronger, and they use the bone they carry as a weapon, wielding it with immense skill. For reasons still unknown, Marowak always die upon laying an egg, leaving every Cubone an orphan. Attempts to save the mother's life have unanimously failed, except for one isolated case in 1019, when one breeder miraculously managed to save a Marowak's life following the discovery of its egg. Despite this, the Cubone child still wept every night. This anomoly has led some researchers to believe Cubone do not actually weep for their dead mothers but for some other unknown reason.

However, discoveries related to ancient Magikarp suggest that this Pokémon was once far stronger than currently living species. This Pokémon, along with ever increasing evidence, continue to support the growing theory that Pokémon are losing their abilities. The modern science community is increasingly gravitating toward the consensus that at some point in the past, all Pokémon were capable of speaking at least their names and evolving multiple times, but are slowly losing their abilities. However, while Magikarp represents what scientists theorize will eventually become of all Pokémon (though not for millions of years), Magikarp retain the ability to speak their name, while their evolution, Gyarados does not.

Lapras call out to others of their kind by singing enchanting melodies.
Ditto

(DIH-toh)
Unclassified species
Type: Normal
Average height: 0.3 m
Average weight: 4 kg
Ditto are able to rearrange their cell structure to transform into other shapes, creating exact replicas of any physical object or living creature, including its form and abilities. However, this appears to be a practiced skill, and Ditto more often than not will have their own shortcomings such as getting certain details wrong if relying on memory, failing to hold their shape under certain conditions, or being unable to match the original’s more vibrant color. Transform allows Ditto to get along with almost anything, though they struggle to get along with their own kind. Ditto will commonly transform into a rock while sleeping to avoid attack. They can be found just about anywhere, but are rarely far from human civilization.
Eevee

(EE-vee)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Normal
Average height: 0.3 m
Average weight: 6.5 kg
Highly amicable, playful, and fond of people, Eevee are most commonly found living in towns and cities. They have an irregularly shaped genetic structure that is easily influenced by their environment, which allows them to adapt to a variety of habitats by evolving. Eevee has more potential evolutions than any other species, and their genes are believed to hold the key to understanding Pokémon evolution. Though rare, they are widely desired and loved as pets and companions.
Vaporeon

(vay-POAR-ee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Water
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 29 kg
Vaporeon can detect moisture with their fins, which vibrate when sensing incoming rain. Most are seen with Trainers, but in the wild they prefer to live in freshwater lakes and shores. Their cell composition’s similarity to water allows them to melt into the water and remain invisible while swimming, hiding from predators and ambushing prey.
Jolteon

(JOHL-tee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Electric
Average height: 0.8 m
Average weight: 24.5 kg
Jolteon create electricity using an organ in their lungs, which cause crackling noises as they exhale. They can also generate low-level electricity in their cells, which are amplified by the negative ions they gather and generate in their fur, allowing them to discharge electric bolts. Their prickly fur is made of electrically charged needles, which create a sparking noise as Jolteon move. They can launch their fur at enemies when agitated or startled, and the charge is powerful enough to remain on the shed fur for hours. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers, however their high-strung nature and tendency toward mood swings can make them difficult to train.
Flareon

(FLEHR-ee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Fire
Average height: 0.9 m
Average weight: 25 kg
Their body temperature–which rises when excited–is caused by an internal flame sac. If a Flareon’s body gets too hot, they will fluff out the fur on their collar to cool down. Flareon store and heat inhaled air in their flame sac, then exhale it as fire, reaching temperatures of 1,700˚C. Their body temperature ranges between 700 and 800˚C, but can reach up to 900˚F. They are omnivores that like to roast berries or prey before consumption. Flareon have a curious personality, and are mostly found among the ownership of Trainers or living in populated areas.
Espeon

(EHS-pee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Psychic
Average height: 0.9 m
Average weight: 26.5 kg
Their velvety fur is sensitive enough to sense miniscule shifts in the air, allowing them to predict the weather and their enemies’ thoughts and movements. By doing so, the tip of their tail quivers. The gem on their forehead glows when unleashing psychic energy and darkens when all of the energy has been exhausted. Espeon build up their psychic power by bathing in the sunlight. As such, they do not handle battles at night well. Espeon show extreme loyalty to any Trainer they consider worthy, even being said to have awakened their psychic powers from a desire to protect their Trainer. Some sources, however, theorize their powers were born from a need to keep themselves safe. Espeon are most commonly found in the ownership of Trainers or living in urban areas.
Umbreon

(UHM-bree-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Dark
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 27 kg
Eevee evolve into Umbreon when exposed to ample amounts of moonlight, which alters their genetic structure. Their yellow rings glow when excited, such as in battle or when exposed to moonlight, which fills them with energy. Umbreon hunt at night, using well-developed eyes that can spot prey in pitch darkness. Their black fur helps them blend into the night while waiting for the right moment to pounce. When they do, the rings emit a dim, ominous glow as they lunge for the prey’s throat. When angered or agitated, Umbreon spray poisonous sweat secreted from their pores into the offender’s eyes to protect themselves. They are most common in urban areas or under the ownership of Trainers.
Leafeon

(LEEF-ee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Grass
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 25.5 kg
Leafeon’s cellular structure is similar to plants, which allows them to perform photosynthesis and purify the air around them by sleeping under the sunlight. They get their energy this way instead of eating. Leafeon are pacifistic, quiet Pokémon, preferring not to fight, though they will sharpen their hard, leafy tail for the occasions they need to. The tail’s sharpness is said to exceed that of a master-crafted sword, being able to cut through trees with one hit. Leafeon aroma is similar to fresh grass in their youth. As they age, this fragrance bears more of a resemblance to fallen leaves. The aroma is favored as a popular ingredient in perfume. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers or in lush forests with clean rivers.
Glaceon

(GLAY-see-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Ice
Average height: 0.8 m
Average weight: 25.9 kg
By controlling their body temperature, Glaceon freeze the moisture in the air, producing ice crystals or diamond dust surrounding them. They are able to freeze their fur into sharp needle-like icicles, which they can fire at opponents or use as protection as they tackle their prey. Glaceon can quickly drop their body temperature below -60˚C. They are popular in ski resorts due to their ability to create powdery snow. However, some have become captivated by their beautiful snowfall and frozen without realizing it. Glaceon are most common among the ownership of Trainers or among icy caves and mountains.
Sylveon

(SIHL-vee-ahn)
Feline Pokémon
Type: Fairy
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 23.5 kg
Their ribbon-like feelers emit a soothing aura that erases any sense of hostility, enabling them to stop fights instantly. When hunting, they swirl their feelers as a distraction while the aura weakens feelings of hostility in their prey. Then Sylveon pounce on their victim. They will also wrap their feelers around their Trainer’s arm as they walk together, which allows them to read their feelings. When a fight breaks out between Sylveon and Dragon-type Pokémon, Sylveon will bravely charge at them even if they are much larger. They are most common in the ownership of Trainers or brightly lit meadows.
Munchlax

(MUHNCH-lax)
Bear Pokémon
Type: Normal
Average height: 0.6 m
Average weight: 105 kg
Munchlax are hyperactive Pokémon. They do not mind walking and running from place to place as they look for food, but are usually slow-moving. They tend to store food in their long fur. Their stomachs allow them to eat nearly anything, even rotten food, and they are indifferent to flavor. Munchlax can eat many servings of food at a time without chewing and rarely get full. They tend to reside in urban areas, raiding for food intended to be thrown away.
Snorlax

(SNOAR-lax)
Bear Pokémon
Type: Normal
Average height: 2.1 m
Average weight: 460 kg
Often found in mountains and forests, Snorlax wake up only to eat, requiring 400 kilograms of food per day before returning to their slumber. They are not picky eaters and their strong stomachs allow them to eat even moldy food without ill effects. They can even handle thorny plants and most poisons. Snorlax are docile enough to let children and small Pokémon play and bounce on their large stomach. Despite apparent laziness, Snorlax can exhibit tremendous power when prompted, and are even capable of swimming through the ocean by the butterfly stroke. On occasion, they have appeared in villages without warning to steal food supplies, causing disaster whenever they do.
Dratini

(druh-TEE-nee)
Dragon Pokémon
Type: Dragon
Average Length: 1.8 m
Average Weight: 3.3 kg
Because their life energy steadily builds to uncomfortable levels, Dratini shed their skin regularly as they grow, hiding behind rapid waterfalls during the process to protect themselves, as the new skin is soft in texture. The shed skin can be tanned and used to create luxury boots. Once thought to be a myth, these incredibly rare Pokémon have been called the “Mirage Pokémon.” Their existence was confirmed by fisherman and Safari Zone warden, Kaiser Taimei, who spent over ten hours attempting to capture one. A small colony was later found underwater. They live in or near bodies of water with a rapid flow, such as pools at the bottom of waterfalls. Dratini live quiet lives underwater, eating any food that sinks to the bottom.
Dragonair

(dræ-guh-NEHR)
Dragon Pokémon
Type: Dragon
Average Length: 4 m
Average Weight: 16.5 kg
Dragonair emit a gentle aura that give them a mystical appearance. They can make their wings grow larger in order to fly, but otherwise move through the air unaided. Dragonair hold immense energy within their bodies, which they can discharge through the crystals on their necks and tails. This causes their bodies to brighten and give off a different aura that changes the weather in their vicinity. They have been referred to as divine Pokémon since ancient times by agricultural peoples. These rare Pokémon inhabit pristine seas and lakes. It is said that a person who sees a Dragonair in Sheyma will be healthy for the entire year to come.
Dragonite

(dræ-guh-NAHYT)
Dragon Pokémon
Type: Dragon-Flying
Average Height: 2.2 m
Average Weight: 210 kg
Despite their bulky build and tiny wings, Dragonite are somehow able to fly at speeds exceeding the speed of sound–one of many unsolved mysteries that have baffled scientists for centuries. These kindhearted, altruistic Pokémon have been known to save humans from drowning at sea and lead lost or foundering ships to safety. Dragonite have been referred to as the “sea guardian” and “Sea Incarnate”, and many ships bear figureheads with Dragonite’s appearance. Though extremely rare, they are found mostly living near the sea and are known to engage in fierce battles with Kingdra whenever they meet.
Substitute Doll

(SUHB-stih-toot DAHL)
Artificial Pokémon
Type: Normal-Electric
Height: 0.8 m
Weight: 9.3 kg
Substitute Doll is an artificially created Pokémon, created by Substitute Incorporated. Born from an Artificial Intelligence program, this Pokémon can think and act for itself, and is capable of speaking to people in human languages via the computer program it resides in. It most often appears onscreen as an image of a doll resembling a cross between a Rhydon and Kangaskhan. Though Substitute Doll is confined within its program, Substitute Inc. has created animatronic bodies for it, which resemble the doll appearance it likes to take onscreen. Through these artificial bodies, Substitute Doll is able to interact with the physical world. This Pokémon has the unique ability to make exact copies of any inanimate object. This Pokémon was initially released to the public. However, following the Porygon hacking incident of 1093, all Substitute Dolls were recalled and destroyed, and only one Substitute Doll body remains today, which currently resides within Substitute Inc., where it continues to provide its item duplication services to the public.
Porygon

(POAR-ee-gahn)
Artificial Pokémon
Type: Normal
Height: 0.4 m
Weight: 37 kg
This highly dangerous Pokémon was born from a glitch and is most infamous for the devastation it caused in 1093, where it hacked into hundreds of Substitute Dolls and generated electrical flashes that led to epileptic seizures in hundreds of children. Though precautions have since been put up to keep it out of Substitute Inc. Headquarters, this glitch Pokémon continues to reside in Western Fuchsia. Those visiting or living in Fuchsia are advised to install anti-Porygon software into any devices they possess as well as avoid any electronics they suspect to be housing Porygon. This Pokémon appears to be one-of-a-kind, and though attempts by the city have been made to eliminate it, Porygon’s free rein of cyberspace and ability to travel to and from the physical world at will make it nearly impossible to capture. Despite this free rein of the internet, not a single Porygon sighting has been reported outside of Fuchsia City since its initial appearance in 1093.
Omanyte

(AHM-an-ahyt)
Cephalopod Pokémon
Type: Rock-Water
Average height: 0.4 m
Average weight: 7.5 kg
Though classified as an extinct Pokémon, modern technology is now able to revive Omanyte from fossils, which have been excavated in areas that were once oceans long ago. They regulated their buoyancy by storing and releasing air within their shell and controlled direction by twisting their tentacles.
Omastar

(AHM-as-tahr)
Cephalopod Pokémon
Type: Rock-Water
Average height: 1 m
Average weight: 35 kg
They are believed to have gone extinct due to the increasingly heavy weight of their shell, which negatively affected their mobility and thus ability to hunt and escape predators. They crawled along ocean floors in search of prey, which likely included the prehistoric ancestors of Shellder. They attack prey by ensnaring them in their tentacles before biting down with the deadly force of their beaks, powerful enough to crush rocks. Omastar is believed to have shared a common ancestor with Octillery.
Kabuto

(kuh-BOO-toh)
Arthropod Pokémon
Type: Rock-Water
Average height: 0.5 m
Average weight: 11.5 kg
Kabuto use the two small black eyes atop their shell to see when they hide on the ocean floor. In their original time, Kabuto were prominently found on beaches, likely aided by their fast and powerful swimming ability. While they are commonly believed to be extinct, isolated populations have been discovered, unchanged for 300 million years.
Kabutops

(KAH-boo-tahps)
Arthropod Pokémon
Type: Rock-Water
Average height: 1.3 m
Average weight: 40.5 kg
Before they went extinct, Kabutops were in the process of evolving into a land dweller, as evident by changes in their gills and legs. This change is thought to be due to their prey moving onto land as well. In their ocean home, Kabutops could tuck up their limbs to help them swim extremely fast, up to roughly 29 knots. They used their sharp scythes to slice enemies and drink their internal fluids. Any leftovers were consumed by other Pokémon. It is unknown what led to their extinction.
Kleavor

(KLEE-voar)
Mantis Pokémon
Type: Bug-Rock
Average height: estimated ≈ 2 m
Average weight: ???
Artist's rendition
It is unknown how Kleavor became extinct. However, copious evidence of their existence seems to support the theory that all Pokémon once possessed multiple evolutions but are gradually losing their abilities. Ancient Hisuian writings claim these Pokémon to have been quite hostile. However, the stones adorning Kleavor’s bodies would often chip off during fierce fights, and settlers of ancient Hisui would collect these to craft tools. One Kleavor in particular was evidently worshiped by the Hisuian people as one of the ten ancient Pokémon blessed by Arceus.
Scream Tail

(SKREEM TAYL)
Rabbit Pokémon
Type: ???
Average height: estimated ≈ 1 m
Average weight: ???
Artist's rendition
A distant ancestor of Jigglypuff. No complete fossil has ever been found, nor one with the necessary preserved DNA to allow for a restoration. Their fangs and claws lead researchers to believe them to have been more ferocious than their modern day descendants. Recent rumors claim a living Scream Tail has been spotted somewhere in Paldea.
Sandy Shocks

(SAN-dee SHAHKS)
Unclassified species
Type: ???
Average height: ???
Average weight: ???
Artist's rendition
Recent expeditions in Paldea claim to have encountered a Pokémon resembling Magneton, but displaying features suggesting it to be an ancient ancestor dating back thousands of years. Though multiple witnesses claim to have seen (and even been attacked by) the Pokémon they call Sandy Shocks, evidence of their existence is inconclusive.
Aerodactyl

(EHR-oh-DAK-tihl)
Pterosaur Pokémon
Type: Rock-Flying
Average height: 1.8 m
Average weight: 59 kg
Though classified as an extinct Pokémon, modern technology is able to revive Aerodactyl from genetic material extracted from amber, though the restoration is considered imperfect. Aerodactyl (like most restored fossil Pokémon) are unaccustomed to modern climates, and must be kept in controled climate areas. However, one in particular is famously owned and trained by Champion Lance of the Kantonian/Johtonian Pokémon League. Believed to have been the king of the skies in their time, Aerodactyl's fangs can rip out throats and tear through metal. Slow to walk on land, they are believed to have nested in mountains, where they enjoyed safety and seclusion.
Articuno

(ahr-tih-KOO-noh)
Avian of Ice
Type: Ice-Flying
Height: ≈ 2 m
Weight: ???
Prior to the Great Kantonian Split, Articuno resided in what is now known as Johto, serving under Lugia. However, during the Kantonian Civil War, Articuno (for reasons unknown) betrayed and fought against its leader. Due to acting of its own will and serving no human orders, this was deemed not a violation of the Treaty of Castelia. Following the end of the war, Articuno fled to the eastern territory now comprising the remaining nation of Kanto. This Legendary Pokémon has the power to control ice at will. When Articuno flaps its wings, it can chill the moisture in the surrounding air, making snow fall. Articuno is most often sighted on icy mountains. According to legend, it sometimes comes to the aid of doomed travelers lost in icy regions, guiding them to safety.
Zapdos

During the Kantonian Civil War, Zapdos (for reasons unknown) betrayed and fought against its leader. Due to acting of its own will and serving no human orders, this was deemed not a violation of the Treaty of Castelia. Following the end of the war, Zapdos fled to the eastern territory now comprising the remaining nation of Kanto. This Legendary Pokémon holds the power to control electricity at will. When Zapdos flaps its glittering wings, it releases electricity that can cause thunderstorms, producing massive crackling and snapping sounds as it flies. Zapdos sightings are almost exclusively reported during thunderstorms. It is said to live among thunderclouds, gaining power when struck by lightning.
Moltres

(MOHL-trays)
Avian of Fire
Type: Fire-Flying
Height: ≈ 2 m
Weight: ???
Prior to the Great Kantonian Split, Moltres resided in what is now known as Johto, serving under Lugia. During the Kantonian Civil War, Moltres (for reasons unknown) betrayed and fought against its leader. Due to acting of its own will and serving no human orders, this was deemed not a violation of the Treaty of Castelia. Following the end of the war, Moltres fled to the eastern territory now comprising the remaining nation of Kanto. This Legendary Pokémon holds the power to control fire at will. Moltres sheds embers with every flap of its wings, creating a brilliant flash of flames. It can heal itself by bathing in the magma of an active volcano. According to legend, this Pokémon comes to the aid of those lost in the mountains and has been said to bring an early springtime to cold lands.
